Like 1/4 of the whole 9th grade (divided to 7 classes) here smokes, which sickens me alot.
And my friend is one of them.
We’re both 15, and I’m uncomfortable seeing him smoke cigarettes.
I don’t see why.
They stink, they **** your lungs up, they cost, etc…

He smokes daily.
How can I get him to quit?

I just quit smoking (actually haven’t smoked in just over a week now) and I want to help my lungs repair quicker. I am in the stages of coughing up tons of mucus and it sucks, but I know its just a sign of healing. What can I do to speed up or aid this process?

My mother has been smoking since I can’t remember. My sister, father, and I have tried to persuade her to quit thousands of times, but she just can’t stop. A few times she promised us she would quit, but none succeeded and she continues to smoke to this day. She used to smoke just about a pack a day; but thankfully, she has decreased the amount to 4-5 a day, as I am aware. We have tried so hard to show her pictures of black lungs, to persuade her that smoking is horrible and that she may get lung cancer; heck, we have given it our best effort and still she is yet to quit. If you have a loved one that is smoking, you know how hard it is for me, knowing that she is killing herself day-by-day and there is nothing you can do to stop her. I have tried many attempts to hide her cigarettes, or throw them away, but I end up feeling like a fool when she simply goes and buys some more. She doesn’t seem to care how much we want her to quit, and I don’t know what to do. Someone please help..?

I quit last November, it has been 8 months and I still cough up small specks of black in my phlegm. I asked my doc. and he said that it was normal, as I had been chain-smoking 6 years prior to quitting. How long did you have withdrawal symptoms when you quit? Should I get a second opinion? I can breath just fine and all, just have excess phlegm with specks of tar in it.

I really don’t want her to die from cancer or get one of those machine things through the throat. She smokes 4-5 a day and I keep telling her to quit but she just ignores me. What would be a good way to make her stop smoking.

What’s the best way to quit smoking right before/during cancer treatment?

I was recently diagnosed with hodgkins lymphoma and sometime in the near future I’ll be meeting with an oncologist and starting treatment. I want to quit smoking to help my situation, but I don’t know the best way to go about it. Quitting cold turkey would obviously be a good idea, but I honestly don’t think I’m capable of doing that. I’ve used patches successfully before, but it took a matter of months to quit that way. I’m not very familiar with nicotine gum, prescription stop-smoking aids, or anything else that may be out there. I’d like to quit a.s.a.p. to avoid becoming sicker during treatment. I’m also concerned about interactions between a stop-smoking aid and chemo/radiation therapy, if my method of quitting did need to take place while I was being treated. Any suggestions or info would mean a lot…
