I’m 24 now, started smoking 10 years ago. Recently found out that I have early stage of Emphysema. I really want to quit, but others in my life are always smoking around me and it just seems as though I can’t be away from it.

I want to quit smoking. I was thinking of different options besides the Rx route. I was wondering is nicotine gum dangerous as in cancerous? I know some people who just switched addictions from ciggs to the gum. Is it the nicotine that causes cancer or the other chemicals in cigarettes? What is the “healthiest” was to quit smoking…besides cold turkey.
Ciggerettes are $6.50 here in TX now…I know what you mean!

I have been smoking for 4 years and 8 months so far. I have been wanting to quit for the past few months now, and going to turkey just will not do it for me. I am thinking I just need a stimulant to use to overcome this addiction.

I was thinking about coffee? Would that be enough stimulant for me to quit smoking? Please provide your input!

Miss D asked:

She is 42, and she has been smoking since she was a teenager. She smokes quite a bit, plus there is history of heart disease and cancer in our family. My grandmother (her mom) died in her early 50s from heart disease. Other than smoking, she is pretty healthy. I am really worried about her, but she is stubborn and acts like I am trying to boss her around when I suggest her quitting. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I should have mentioned that she quit a few years ago for several months and then started back. I think it is kind of a stress reliever for her. She has a really stressful job.

I don’t smoke, but I live with smokers and I want them to quit smoking because I am at cause for second hand smoking (if you heard a lot of people are getting second hand smoking from being or living with a smoker).
Does anyone here have any suggestions or ideas how I can get these people to quit smoking the easy way without wasting a lot of money? I don’t want them to spend to much money on ways that don’t even work, so any ideas are welcome.
